Sojourner

Key West would be the final destination on our Spring Fling, and the days leading up to our arrival were beautiful and memorable and evoked a sensation of inner peace. While no particular place stood out, the collection of so many little places has made this region one of my favorites.

We explored the southeastern states like butterflies, moving gracefully from one beautiful spot to another on a warm, sunny day. This journey allowed us to fully appreciate our country’s beauty, making it easy to lose track of time.

If I had to choose a favorite spot, I couldn’t. Each location was a unique gem, contributing to a breathtaking tapestry of beauty and offering insights into this country I had not experienced before. This journey was not just about the countryside but also about the culture and the people of the South.

It made me realize the diversity and richness of our country, highlighting how much there is to explore and appreciate in my own backyard.

During our journey along the backroads of the South, we immersed ourselves in the unique local experiences that define the region. We visited local museums, military bases, and Elvis Presley’s childhood home and dined at one-of-a-kind restaurants while enjoying beautiful open spaces. This eclectic adventure took us to places not typically highlighted in travel brochures.

We tasted various dishes we had never encountered before. We revisited a few things we hadn’t had in years, including grits, gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice with cornbread, and several others we couldn’t quite identify. We enjoyed sweet tea, mint juleps, alligator cocktails, and various beverages we would have again when we returned home.

This region will always hold a special place in my heart.
