We are on our way!
It was a lot of work for what seemed such an easy trip. Everything we needed would be packed in the car, ready for our adventure. If anything was forgotten, it could easily be picked up along the way. We are not traveling in a foreign country, so there were no flights to catch or schedule-watching for Space-A. Our taxes were completed and paid, a weight off our shoulders and pocketbook. Our home and yard were made ready for us to be gone, which is nearly a full-time job. All entertaining and family obligations are done for this season, leaving us free to enjoy our vacation to the fullest.
At last!

As we stepped out the door, a wave of relief washed over us. We packed our car with a few last-minute items, grabbed the unread newspapers and magazines from the past few days, and made our way to the nearest coffee shop. There, we sat down, sipped our coffee, and indulged in some peaceful reading. Once we felt rejuvenated, we set off on our journey North, stopping at the first rest stop for a much-needed nap.

Roseville was our goal for the first day; by 2:00, we were one-third of the way there. We stayed the night with our daughter Amy and her family. Dinner was at 6:00, so we thought we had plenty of time. We hoped. At our current rate, I was not so sure.
We had such a lovely visit and dinner, but I knew it was going to be hard when 7:20 rolled around, and I was yearning for bedtime. We made it until 8:50 and were soon fast asleep. We told our daughter we would see her off at 6:15 the following day, but we slept through that; so much for being an early morning riser.

We headed off the next day over Donner Pass, where it was expected to snow. The worst-case scenario is that we would be delayed and have to call it an early day. Perhaps we could have a cup of coffee and a nap somewhere before ceasing our drive. That might be the best-case scenario, actually. At least we will have another hundred miles in, so progress is being made, I think.
Either way, we are in good company, and we are content.
See you when we return! And at this rate, we may want to start that right now.
