The French Way-Revisted 2023

The French Way was our first and probably most life-changing Camino, and it is the one by which we evaluate the others. From St. Jean de Piedport and then over the Pyrenees, my memories are surreal and nestled deep in my heart. While other walks have come along and have been epic adventures, this was our first and ignited our love for walking the Caminos in Spain.

In 2017, we completed a partial walk of the Frances with our dearest friends, the Martinas. In 2022, they invited us and five other couples to join them as they revisited this section of the Camino Frances. We said yes, as we had planned to walk the Camino Ingles ourselves that year and would be in the area.

On September 21st, six couples started from Sarria, and one week later, we were all in Santiago de Compostela together. These are undoubtedly moments that connect people, and for the rest of our lives, we will share the stories of this time.

It is a different traveling in a group. It is not usually my preference, but surprisingly, it worked out. It was a diverse experience for everyone, and I benefited the most by recognizing this early on. These walks are usually very intimate for Tom and me as we reconnect with each other and the world around us. While those moments may have been lost, eating pizza and drinking cervesa with ten other people you care about at the end of a long, hot day was fun.

We are again thankful for what we have been allowed to be a part of.

You are loved…

  1. I love reading about your travels and it’s given me a hunger to get to that part of Europe. Needless to say Spain and Portugal are on our bucket list. We recently checked for flights from Dover but with the Israeli unrest thought it best to wait awhile. Heading to Phoenix next in Nov. – Dec 13 to see our daughter. Would love to see you both again some day and hoping our paths will cross. Wishing you a lovely holiday season! Sending Love and prayers, Jeanne and Bob ( Meriden, Connecticut)
