After our time in Jerome, Idaho we headed back to Montana. We are staying at the home of Roy and Laverne McKinney in Lima. They have a lovely ranch and have opened their hearts and home to us for our stay while we are in this area.
We are once again excited to be parked under some trees and on a river. The weather is cool and although the fires on the west coast seemed to have a slightly permeated into this area we are able to sit out by a campfire each night and look at the stars. We and are reminded of how fortunate we are to be here.
Another new adventure for us was riding side-by-sides through the Montana hills. Sides by sides are sport utility vehicles, which are like golf carts on steroids and can ride up and down hillsides with the greatest of ease. This was a first for us and it was exhilarating. We did not tire as we raced up and down the hillsides of beautiful Montana.
We also went to Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, which houses Montana’s first and best-known limestone caves. We had a tour where we learned about stalactites, stalagmites and amongst other things the lives of bats. Our guide was an enthusiastic young man who clearly loved his job teaching us about caves unique ecosystems.
We spent some time up at Morrison Lake for a day of fishing and picnicking. This is the first time in nearly thirty years I have been fishing and I caught two fish the moment my line hit the water! It was as if no time had passed at all and I felt the same excitment I did when I was a kid and would catch a fish.
Tomorrow we head off toward Yellowstone National Park. Our adventure continues and we happy to be with our friends and to see what lies ahead!
Carpe Diem!
