After Anegeda we had planned to go to Josh Van Dyke before heading back to Tortola to return our yacht. The 2017 hurricane had damaged several docks in the British VIrgin Islands and some of the docks at Josh Van Dyke were affected. Because of this we were unable to find suitable mooring so we decided to head on over to Tortola instead. We had no regrets with this decision.
We had booked a beautiful villa called the Sunset House and it took us only one moment to discover how appropriately it was named. It is perched high on a hill overlooking the ocean. When sitting on the deck you are able to see the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets. We are breathless here.
Besides enjoying the beauty of our villa we would enjoy a daily walk down to the beach. We could snorkel and swim along the way and often found ourselves at Nigel’s Beach Bar where we would enjoy a grilled hot dog. There is nothing like a hot dog with grilled onions and a cold drink on a white sand beach with turquoise waters to set your soul at ease. It was enlightening to talk to the locals and hear of their experiences during the hurricanes. Being from California it is hard to relate to the intensity of these storms. I think it was quite phenomenal and I think I may have underestimated the effect it had on this area.

In the evenings we would eagerly wait for our happy hour on our deck. Here our lovely ladies would serve us hors d’oeuvre as we watched the sun dip into the ocean. And, just when we thought it couldn’t get any better than that, they would serve us a full course meal as we reveled in the beauty of where we were. It was a lovely way to finish our travels.
We have had a moment to experience life differently and as always, we have been enriched by this experience. We have caught our breath and then exhaled as we gear up for what is next. We are forever thankful for this time. You are loved…
