Today we headed out to Peter Island and along the way we stopped at Dead Man’s Bay to snorkel for a bit. In the days of yore a “Dead Mans Chest” was the name of a coffin. It is said that if you look at Peter Island from the northwest the Island will look like a coffin. Look long enough and you will begin to see a shrouded body with a raised head. Folklore has it that the infamous pirate Blackbeard marooned fifteen men on this bay with nothing but a bottle of rum. Some of these men tried to swim the half mile to Peter Island’s eastern cove but didn’t make it, giving this beautiful palm lined bay the ominous name, “Dead Man’s Bay”.
I am beginning to relax and surrender what has held me captive this last year. I am finding peace in the simplicity of my life out on the sea. We are surrounded by pristine waters with abundant marine life and sunsets that encompass the entire horizon. Perfect each and every time. I am in awe of this masterpiece…
