Germany is a country that celebrates its celebratory nature. A week does not go by in which they haven’t found something to celebrate. The beauty here is that these are usually family events and just another reason to be out together enjoying life. We happened to be around for the wine fest which is actually a part of the Deutsch Weinstrasse (German Wine Road). It begins at the German wine gate which starts near the French border and runs 85km around the Rhine River Valley. It is the oldest Wine Road in the world and it began in October 1935. We happened to join in at Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach. It was both quaint and lovely.
There was traditional German music, a variety of delicacies to try, and an abundance of wine and beer. It was all fantastic. And fun. We tried the new wine which is like a sweet green grape juice. A person could down the glass in one sip on a warm day if they weren’t careful. I haven’t had liverwurst in ages so when I saw it being served on toast with pickles I had to have it. It was delicious. We tried a variety of the local foods along with our wine and beer and everything was phenomenal. We purchased some homemade jelly and of course Tom found some limon gelato. The end to a perfect day.
We are acclimating to the customs and interestingly, Tom is picking up the language. I am able to say a few words that are understandable but have been told I have an accent-just not an American accent! We are learning so many new things. We have a tourist pass which enables us to ride public transportation so we will try that soon. We will check in with you at the end of day so you know we made it home safe and sound!
Much love…
