To those of you who have heard of my desires of travel you know I have been counting on a familiar setting in which I could enjoy warm sun, blue skies, and the sounds of the ocean in my dreams. And, while that has been ever-present in my mind for the last year I have to say it really didn’t take long for me to have a change of heart.
The beauty, and the adventure, of Space A travelling is that we don’t always know where we will end up…exactly. We know the general direction we are moving toward and eventually what we want will come up and we can move onward. Our flight was destined to the UK and then on to Germany which is a major hub of travel. We were scheduled for a day and a half layover. We were excited about this as fellow travelers had told us about some local sites, the Blue Pub being on the top of everyone’s list along with a few other things that were doable in such a short time. We had our place booked and off we went. Five hours later we were diverted due to ground visibility and sent on to Germany. We checked the outgoing flights when we arrived and nothing was scheduled for the next 72 hours headed in a direction that we wanted. We are aware that things change pretty frequently around here but after a few days we decided since we were in Germany in the fall, which we consider the most beautiful time, we would stay and savor the beauty of where we are. This trip was designed to be easy with a bit of a respite for us. So staying was what we chose. I am happy to say we are headed to the Black Forest region in southern Germany.
The Black Forest is a mountainous region in southwest Germany, bordering France. Known for its dense, evergreen forests and picturesque villages, it is often associated with the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. It’s renowned for its spas and the cuckoo clocks produced in the region since the 1700s. The region’s largest town, Freiburg, is filled with Gothic buildings and surrounded by vineyards. We will be staying in this area for while at a beautiful ‘apartment’ in a small village. We are near the French and Swiss border and plan to visit these places as well.
The weather is great here for this time of year. We are not in sandals or shorts but we are comfortable. You would love this area I am sure. Thinking of you always…
